MICROBIAL TESTS

All microbial tests for OxiTitan are conducted with typical interior light, temperature and humidity. Challenge organisms are dried onto surfaces as found in real-world environments. Representatives of different microbe types (virulent spores, viruses, gram positive, gram negative and antibiotic resistant bacteria, biofilms) were chosen to demonstrate the broad spectrum antimicrobial efficacy of OxiTitan. EcoActive Surfaces has constantly improved the antimicrobial performance of our OxiTitan products. Independent testing began in 2009 and our current versions meet or exceed the results illustrated below.

One of the most critical issues in healthcare infection control today is the deadly Clostridium difficile endospore. Unlike its bacterial form, the spores are much hardier than the vegetative bacterium. Even hospital grade disinfectants have difficulty killing C. diff. OxiTitan kills C. diff spores continuously by persistent photooxidation. The independent lab tests by Antimicrobial Test Laboratories on the reduction of deadly Clostridium difficile spores show 91% reduction in viable spores in 24 hours on a OxiTitan coated surface:

Many common cleansers and disinfectants, such as quaternary ammonium, are ineffective against viruses. OxiTitan deactivates deadly viruses through powerful oxidation of their components. This independent lab test uses the MS-2 bacteriophage as the viral test surrogate. MS-2 is used as a surrogate for other RNA type viruses such as Norovirus, Influenza, the common cold and Hepatitis C. One day reduction of nearly 90% was achieved with 40% killed in just 15 minutes.

This independent lab test with the Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) bacteria, another deadly and antibiotic resistant bacterium, shows the extraordinary killing power of OxiTitan under just normal interior lighting on a typical tile surface. The bacterial reductions were 81.6% to 98% from 15 minutes to 24 hours.

OxiTitan kills deadly MRSA bacteria with just ordinary artificial light on a typical tile surface. The bacterial reductions are 30% after just 15 minutes, 75% at 4 hours and 97% after 24 hours.

Another study our latest performance enhanced OxiTitan is a double lab test showing its killing power on Staph. aureus and E. coli. The results speak for themselves. Again, just ambient interior lighting like in your own home or workplace environment was used, with no UV.

A clear demonstration of the rapid antimicrobial effects of OxiTitan , using only ordinary interior light, shows that it is effectively killing Staph bacteria (Gram-positive) and maintains a persistent killing effect over time. Note that OxiTitan has an initial killing effect (96% in just one hour) even in the dark due to the strong ‘absorption power’ of the charged zinc metal and titanium dioxide crystals:

Another test of OxiTitan demonstrates the killing of Bacillus, which like Clostridium bacteria and spores, are extremely difficult to eliminate using traditional methods. C. Difficile is an increasing threat in health care facilities:

General trends of organic compound reduction by OxiTitan as representation of biofilm reduction can be determined by large sampling sets with an Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) meter, although it is not accurate for microbial evaluation. Measurement of organic film reduction in ambient interior light is utilizing a Hygiena ATP illuminometer.
